OpenAI and Samsung have signed a letter of intent to form a strategic partnership focused on AI infrastructure. This collaboration includes memory supply, data centers, and floating power solutions, aimed at bolstering OpenAI’s Project Stargate. Samsung Electronics will supply high-performance memory to fulfill OpenAI’s projected demand of 900,000 DRAM wafers monthly, while Samsung SDS will aid in designing and operating AI data centers. Additionally, Samsung will resell OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise in South Korea to promote local business adoption. The partnership also explores floating data centers, which offer solutions to land scarcity and lower carbon emissions. This move comes amid increasing competition from AI rivals like Meta and Google, urging OpenAI to establish more independence from hyperscalers like Microsoft. By leveraging Samsung’s resources, OpenAI aims to expand its operational capacity and enhance its infrastructure in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
