OpenAI, the innovative US tech company behind ChatGPT, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence data center named Stargate Argentina in Patagonia, marking a historic investment of $25 billion—the first of its kind in Latin America. This project, developed in collaboration with Sur Energy, aims to leverage Argentina’s renewable energy potential to support AI technology while creating high-quality jobs and attracting international investment. Under President Javier Milei’s “Régimen de Incentivos para Grandes Inversiones” (RIGI), the initiative promises long-term fiscal benefits to attract foreign capital in strategic sectors. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized the project’s goal of democratizing AI access across Argentina. Additionally, the partnership will enhance the distribution of OpenAI technology through the “OpenAI for Countries” initiative, aiming to modernize public services. This ambitious project positions Argentina as a leader in AI-driven growth in Latin America, reflecting its commitment to sustainable innovation and technological advancement.
