Sam Altman sounds code red over Google Gemini?

World, the biometric ID verification platform co-founded by Sam Altman, unveiled a new app version featuring enhanced security and functionality. The update includes encrypted chat, allowing users to securely send messages like on Signal, and expanded cryptocurrency payments, enabling digital currency transactions similar to Venmo. Developed by Tools for Humanity since 2019, World aims to combat online impersonation and AI-generated deepfakes through its unique verification process, which involves iris scans to create a digital World ID. This digital identity grants access to various services while prioritizing user privacy. At a recent presentation, Altman highlighted the need for a new economic model centered on web3 principles. The app has also evolved into a “super app,” with color-coded verified contacts for improved social interaction. With ambitions to verify one billion people globally, World has so far authenticated fewer than 20 million users, showcasing the project’s significant growth potential in digital identity verification.
