OpenAI has partnered with South Korean tech giants Samsung and SK Hynix to support the $500 billion Stargate initiative, aimed at enhancing AI infrastructure. Following a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, these collaborations aim to bolster South Korea’s semiconductor industry, creating job opportunities in the tech sector. Samsung and SK Hynix, leaders in memory chip production, will scale up their output to meet the growing demands of OpenAI. Additionally, OpenAI has plans for “Stargate Korea,” an AI data center in collaboration with SK Telecom. Samsung will join forces with OpenAI to innovate floating data center technologies, optimizing land use and reducing carbon footprints. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized South Korea’s potential as a leader in AI, citing its tech talent and ecosystem. The Stargate venture, backed by significant investments, aims to expand AI computing infrastructure across the U.S. and support future developments.
