OpenAI is preparing to launch advertising within ChatGPT by establishing an “ads integrity” team focused on advertiser verification, brand safety, and user trust. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining the quality and reliability of its AI responses amid revenue generation efforts. A recent job listing indicates that this team will create internal tools to balance safety standards with advertising operations. Additionally, the team will implement “know your customer” (KYC) systems to verify advertiser identities and mitigate fraudulent ads, a common challenge in self-service ad models. OpenAI’s spokesperson clarified that a limited advertising test will begin soon, targeting ChatGPT’s free and Go versions in the U.S. Advertisers will need a minimum spend of $200,000 to participate. Performance metrics like impressions and clicks will be monitored during this phase, underscoring OpenAI’s aim to avoid pitfalls faced by established advertising platforms.
