OpenAI has acquired Torch, a healthcare startup, for approximately $100 million in equity. This acquisition includes Torch’s four-member team, known for developing an AI application that aggregates medical information from various sources. The app aims to consolidate data from doctor visits, lab tests, wearable devices, and online wellness portals into a unified “medical memory” for AI. Co-founder Ilya Abyzov noted the team previously collaborated at Forward Health, which unexpectedly shut down in late 2024 after raising over $400 million in funding. Unlike Forward’s closure, the acquisition enables Torch’s technology to integrate into OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Health initiative.
