OpenAI is advancing artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives in Australia by collaborating with local partners through its OpenAI for Australia program, a pioneering effort in the Asia Pacific region. The initiative aims to enhance Australia’s AI ecosystem, focusing on building sovereign AI infrastructure and upskilling the workforce. OpenAI has partnered with NEXTDC under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a next-generation hyperscale AI campus at NEXTDC’s S7 site in Eastern Creek, Sydney. This partnership will create a large-scale GPU supercluster to support critical workloads across government, enterprise, research, and national infrastructure. By being an initial offtaker, OpenAI is positioned to scale its operations, providing Australia with the necessary computing capacity to advance its AI capabilities. This initiative underscores OpenAI’s commitment to fostering economic and societal benefits through innovative AI solutions tailored to local needs.
