The company announced the pause while it works on strengthening guidelines for the portrayal of historical figures. OpenAI emphasized the importance of allowing families control over their loved ones’ likenesses, stating that representatives can request their exclusion from the platform. This decision follows a request from King’s daughter, Bernice A. King, who urged users to stop creating videos that misuse her father’s image, drawing parallels to concerns voiced by Zelda Williams regarding AI content of her father, Robin Williams. Since the introduction of Sora 2 in September, users have been increasingly producing realistic videos of deceased celebrities like Kobe Bryant and Malcolm X.
