OpenAI has launched a significant update for ChatGPT Atlas, its AI-powered browser for macOS, enhancing user experience months after its initial release. The update introduces tab groups for improved organization during extensive browsing sessions, addresses vertical tab mini mode issues, and simplifies the right-click context menu to reduce visual clutter. A highlight is the new Auto search mode, intelligently switching between ChatGPT and Google based on user queries, thus eliminating the need for manual selection. The redesigned search results interface features a vertical layout, enhancing link visibility. Additional usability enhancements include prompts for installing the iCloud passwords extension for Safari users during onboarding, a simplified address bar context menu, crash resolution, updated translations, and support for macOS keyboard text replacements. Following a previous major update in November, ChatGPT Atlas remains exclusive to macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android versions in development.
