OpenAI is set to launch a personal device with a voice interface, emphasizing audio format advancements. According to TechCrunch, the initiative aligns with a trend in Silicon Valley towards reducing screen reliance. From November to December 2025, OpenAI convened various teams to enhance its audio models, aiming for a 2027 release of its new devices, which may include screenless smart speakers and smart glasses. Competitors like Meta and Google are also innovating; Meta recently added features to Ray-Ban smart glasses, Google is testing “audio previews” for search results, and Tesla is integrating a voice assistant in its vehicles. Apple, too, is developing its smart glasses, potentially unveiling them in 2026. OpenAI’s upcoming audio model, expected in early 2026, will feature a more natural voice, support for conversational interruptions, and simultaneous speech capabilities, offering advancements not found in today’s models.
