OpenAI Group PBC is reportedly in discussions with Amazon.com Inc. to raise at least $10 billion. Amazon, a leading investor in large language models, has already supported rival Anthropic PBC, with recent investments in AWS data centers to enhance AI capacities. These facilities are set to house over one million AWS Trainium2 AI chips by year-end, potentially adopted by OpenAI if funding materializes. Amazon unveiled its latest AI chip, AWS Trainium3, featuring eight cores and advanced memory management, significantly optimizing AI workloads. Trainium3 chips are implemented in Amazon EC2 Trn3 UltraServers, boasting enhanced bandwidth for data exchange. Should the investment proceed, OpenAI might utilize both current and future AWS chips, particularly the anticipated Trainium4, expected to offer substantial performance improvements. Following a recent valuation surge to $500 billion, Amazon’s investment could further elevate OpenAI’s worth as it continues to gain users rapidly.
