OpenAI has removed online content related to its $6.4 billion acquisition deal with Sir Jony Ive’s startup, io, following a trademark complaint from iyO, a company that produces AI-supported earbuds. This includes a promotional video featuring Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman discussing the deal, although the video remains available on YouTube. OpenAI stated that it took down the webpage announcing the acquisition due to a court order but disagrees with the complaint and is exploring its options. The partnership aims to blend Ive’s design expertise with OpenAI’s technology, though the first products are not expected until next year. Altman described an upcoming prototype as “the coolest piece of technology” ever seen. Despite concerns about the impact of smartphones, both executives clarified that their new venture will not aim to eliminate existing devices like the iPhone. The legal dispute does not affect the acquisition itself.
