OpenAI Says Hackers Stole Data From Its Analytics Partner Mixpanel

OpenAI has issued a warning to developers about potential phishing attacks following a data breach at its analytics partner, Mixpanel. The breach, which occurred earlier this month, may have exposed profile data such as names, email addresses, and approximate locations of some API users. OpenAI confirmed that its own systems remain secure, and ChatGPT users were not affected, with no compromised passwords, payment details, or API requests. However, the company cautioned that the leaked information could be exploited for phishing attacks, urging developers to be vigilant with unexpected communications. Cybersecurity expert Jake Moore noted that while the data’s sensitivity is low, it could be used to create convincing fraudulent messages. The breach stemmed from a “smishing” attack detected on November 8. Mixpanel, serving over 11,000 clients, is currently cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the incident.
