OpenAI announced in a recent court filing that its highly anticipated hardware product, developed in collaboration with renowned Apple designer Jony Ive, will not be launched before February 2027. This news came amidst ongoing legal disputes with startup Iyo, which filed a lawsuit regarding the “io” trademark. OpenAI has decided to abandon the “io” name for its hardware following a court injunction and has removed related branding from its website. The initial expectation was to reveal the product in late 2026, leading to speculation about its nature, with possibilities including earbuds, glasses, or innovative tech. Despite ongoing intrigue, OpenAI has clarified there will be no marketing or sales related to the previously planned “io” branding. OpenAI’s legal representatives argue that the upcoming April 2026 injunction hearing is unnecessary, as branding has been reconsidered in light of existing trademarks.
