OpenAI has finalized a significant deal to sublease approximately 280,000 square feet at the former Dropbox headquarters in Mission Bay, San Francisco. This expansion marks OpenAI’s third move in the area, bringing its total real estate in Mission Bay to over 1 million square feet. The company, known for its groundbreaking ChatGPT, has also subleased other nearby properties from Uber and Gap Incorporated. With the previous occupants vacating, including Dropbox, OpenAI is capitalizing on available space. In addition, OpenAI recently secured a lease for 450,000 square feet in Mountain View, indicating a strategic growth strategy in the Bay Area. As demand for housing surges in Mountain View, developers are responding to the city’s East Whisman district, which aims for up to 5,000 new housing units.
