OpenAI has secured a 6-gigawatt agreement with AMD to enhance its AI infrastructure using AMD Instinct GPUs. The rollout will commence in the latter half of 2026, starting with a one-gigawatt deployment of the MI450 GPU series. This strategic partnership marks a significant step in optimizing AI capabilities through multi-generational hardware and software collaboration, building on previous models like the MI300X and MI350X. As part of the agreement, AMD will grant OpenAI warrants for up to 160 million shares of common stock, contingent on reaching specific milestones related to the deployment scale and share-price targets. OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized that deep collaboration is essential for realizing AI’s full potential, asserting that this partnership will enable the scalability needed for impactful AI solutions that benefit society.
