OpenAI’s CFO, Sarah Friar, announced in a recent blog post that the company aims to make 2026 “the year of practical adoption” for artificial intelligence (AI). This strategy focuses on integrating AI into vital sectors like healthcare, science, and business, emphasizing its immediate impact on productivity and tangible outcomes. OpenAI reported significant growth through services such as ChatGPT, which surged annual revenue from $2 billion to over $20 billion within two years. This expansion corresponds with an increase in computing resources from 0.2 GW to 1.9 GW. Friar mentioned that broader access to these resources could speed up adoption but requires long-term planning. Concerns about AI investment’s sustainability prompted OpenAI to diversify its compute supply, including a strategic, yet undeveloped, $100 billion agreement with Nvidia. Additionally, the blog highlighted ongoing advertising tests in ChatGPT and OpenAI’s preparations for a potential IPO, emphasizing monetization only where it provides clear user value.
