OpenAI has launched the Sora video app for Android, allowing users to create AI-generated videos using the Sora 2 AI model. This follows its successful iOS release, which attracted thousands of users. Bill Peebles, head of Sora, announced the Android availability on X, although the app is currently limited to select regions like the US, Canada, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. New users in the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea can join without an invite code, coinciding with the Android launch. Sora enables video creation from text prompts, featuring options to include friends or celebrity cameos, such as Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban. Users can also add pets or objects to their videos. Daily limits apply: ChatGPT Pro subscribers can create 100 videos, while free users can make 30. Additional tokens are available for purchase. Upcoming updates may include monetization features. However, Sora faces concerns over content sourcing, particularly from Japanese publishers.
