OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Go in the US, an $8 per month subscription, alongside plans to introduce ads in both the subscription and free versions. This initiative aims to boost OpenAI’s revenue amidst significant AI infrastructure expenses, including a recent partnership with Cerebras. Launched in India earlier, ChatGPT Go is now available in over 170 countries, offering a new tier in OpenAI’s subscription lineup, which also includes ChatGPT Plus ($20/month), ChatGPT Pro ($200/month), and ChatGPT Business ($25/month).
ChatGPT Go, while featuring more capabilities than the free tier, offers less than ChatGPT Plus. The presence of ads may encourage users to switch tiers for cost savings, similar to streaming services. Future ads will prioritize independence from content and data privacy. OpenAI’s strategic ad rollout is set to commence in the coming weeks, aiming to enhance user experience while aligning with financial goals.
