In a recent blog post, Google announced significant updates to its Play Store policies, allowing developers more flexibility in the Android ecosystem. Developers can now use their own billing systems, link to external purchase pages, and distribute apps via third-party app stores that comply with Google’s safety standards. Additionally, Google is reducing Play Store fees, with billing fees around 5% for those using Google’s system, approximately 20% on new installs, and about 10% for subscriptions. These changes will begin rolling out in mid-2026. Epic Games also confirmed that “Fortnite” will globally expand on Google Play, highlighting that these adjustments aim to transform Android into a genuinely open platform.
