OpenAI's COO says if you're bullish on AI, you can be bullish on legacy software too

In a recent “Uncapped” podcast episode, OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap emphasized that legacy software companies are rapidly integrating AI, akin to agile startups, countering the recent sell-off of software stocks known as the “software apocalypse.” Despite a significant drop in shares for major firms like Salesforce, Microsoft, and Oracle—down 24% to 30%—Lightcap believes the sell-off may be unjustified. He noted that these companies are not only motivated but also possess strong customer relationships, leveraging AI to reshape the customer journey and explore new markets. He expressed optimism about the legacy software sector’s future, suggesting that investments in these companies could be beneficial for those optimistic about AI and startups. Other tech leaders like Dan Rogers of Asana also affirmed that AI enhances their software offerings, indicating that the integration of AI is essential for collaboration between human users and AI agents, thus reinforcing legacy systems’ relevance amidst AI advancements.
