OpenAI is set to launch its first hardware product, a smart speaker designed by renowned designer Jony Ive, expected early next year. According to a report from The Information, the speaker, priced between $200 and $300, will feature a camera for user interaction, allowing it to identify surroundings and facilitate purchases through facial recognition, similar to Apple’s Face ID. OpenAI is also developing additional products, including smart glasses and a smart lamp. Despite the collaboration, tensions have arisen between OpenAI’s internal team and Ive’s design firm, LoveFrom, due to slow design revisions and communication issues. Additionally, integration challenges have followed OpenAI’s acquisition of other design teams.
