OpenAI's Sam Altman Admits New AI Tools Too Costly For Free Users, Says Goal Is To Lower Prices Over Time: 'Want To Learn What's Possible…' - NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA), Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO)

On Sunday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that new AI features will be available exclusively to paying users due to high compute costs. He announced these developments on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that some offerings will initially be for Pro subscribers, while new products may incur additional fees. Altman assured users that OpenAI aims to reduce the cost of AI services for broader accessibility over time. His comments align with OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor’s views on the current AI boom, likening it to the late 1990s dot-com bubble and noting that while valuations are overheated, resilient companies like Amazon and Google will prevail. Additionally, as part of its strategy to lessen reliance on Nvidia, OpenAI is embarking on a partnership with Broadcom to produce custom AI chips, supported by a $10 billion supply agreement, which has already generated significant demand for Broadcom’s semiconductors.
