Pentagon Faces Resistance Over Anthropic's AI Tools Amid Controversy, ETTelecom

Despite the Pentagon’s order to phase out Anthropic’s AI tools due to a dispute over security, many military staff and contractors are resisting this change. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared Anthropic a supply-chain risk on March 3, limiting its use among Pentagon contractors. Many users favor Anthropic’s Claude AI, seeing it as superior, especially in comparison to xAI’s Grok. The transition away from Claude is expected to be lengthy and costly, with system recertification potentially taking 12 to 18 months and losing productivity as tasks return to manual methods. Some contractors are “slow rolling” the phase-out, hoping for a resolution before the deadline. Additionally, companies like Palantir will need to overhaul their systems, resulting in frustration among developers. The Pentagon is facing a strategic decision on whether to shift to alternatives like OpenAI or Google, amid concerns over operational functionality and productivity losses.
