Users attempting to access Perplexity’s Indian domain (Perplexity.in) are being redirected to Google Gemini instead of the intended AI chatbot service. This issue stems from Perplexity’s failure to secure its country-specific domain, allowing competitors to seize the opportunity. Although Perplexity.com redirects to Perplexity.ai, the company has not registered local domains for key markets, including the UK, France, Canada, and Germany, reflecting a potential oversight in their international strategy. Perplexity, based in San Francisco, is actively working to scale its operations in India and recently partnered with Airtel to provide Perplexity Pro services. In September, they launched the AI browser Comet for Pro subscribers in India, offering features like meeting booking and online purchases. This situation underscores the importance of securing country-specific domains for global brand protection and user access. As Perplexity expands, addressing these domain vulnerabilities will be crucial for their success in competitive markets.
