The University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Department of Philosophy is enhancing faculty research and student learning focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and its ethical implications. Department Chair Nancy Stanlick highlights the importance of exploring fundamental philosophical questions surrounding AI’s impact on humanity. Professor Steve Fiore, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, investigates human interaction with technology and co-authored a study promoting human-centered AI design. Professor Jonathan Beever developed a certificate program that equips students to advocate for ethical data-driven technologies. Associate Lecturer Stacey DiLiberto merges digital humanities with traditional studies, challenging students to consider AI’s effects on identity and creativity. She emphasizes that although AI can create art, it lacks emotional depth and lived experiences that are essential to human expression.
