Pinterest Responds To “AI Slop” Backlash With New Filtering Tools

Pinterest has launched new controls allowing users to limit AI-generated content, following user backlash against a surge of “AI slop” in their feeds. This move responds to concerns over the increasing prevalence of GenAI material, now constituting 57% of all online content, which could harm Pinterest’s reputation and financial health. The platform also enhanced visibility for existing GenAI content labels to aid user recognition. Users can access these new controls in the “Settings” menu under “Refine your recommendations,” where they can choose to see less AI content in categories like beauty, art, fashion, and home décor, with plans to expand based on user feedback. Additionally, users can provide real-time feedback when encountering undesirable AI-generated Pins. This rollout begins with the Pinterest website and Android app, with iOS availability coming soon. Pinterest aims to balance human creativity with AI innovation, ensuring feeds reflect users’ true inspirations.
