As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into education, NC State Professor Meghan Manfra is dedicated to equipping students with essential skills for a dynamic technological landscape. Leading projects such as the University of North Carolina System’s AI Foundational Skills Training Initiative, Manfra focuses on cultivating human-centered capacities alongside technical knowledge. Set to launch in 2026, the initiative prepares students from all 17 UNC institutions for an AI-driven future, emphasizing critical thinking and human judgment in AI usage.
Additionally, Manfra is spearheading the “Responsible Engagement with AI Across the Disciplines” (READY) course to enhance AI literacy, employing the Assess-Plan-Learn inquiry framework to help students address real-world challenges using AI responsibly. This course, designed for all majors, will officially debut in Spring 2026. Furthermore, through the Action Inquiry for the Modern Workforce (AIM) project, Manfra aims to guide NC State’s academic programs in implementing AI effectively.
