During the recent Ganeshotsav immersion procession, Pune’s AI-based analytics system generated over 30,000 alerts addressing issues like abandoned bags, overcrowding, and public disturbances. Additionally, it identified 260 individuals on police watch lists, leading to the apprehension of over 100 suspects. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar praised the system’s effectiveness, highlighting its role in enhancing public safety. Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Pawar detailed that alerts covered various concerns, such as triple-seating on motorcycles and potential scuffles. Notably, some identified suspects were linked to serious crimes, including murder, but were released after verification. The AI-driven system was connected to an advanced network of CCTV cameras and operated from a control room at Faraskhana, ensuring timely alerts to ground staff. This initiative showcases how technology can significantly improve crowd management and law enforcement during large public events. Overall, the integration of AI in policing marks a proactive step in ensuring community safety.
