Relying on AI Agents for Work: A Risky Choice Amid Unreliability and Lack of Accountability

UK workers expect to hand over almost a third of their workload to AI agents within the next year, yet most say the technology is still unreliable and lacks clear accountability

A recent poll by Asana’s Work Innovation Lab reveals that UK workers expect to delegate nearly a third of their tasks to AI in the coming year, rising to 41% in three years. Currently, only 25% feel equipped to do so, despite 75% already using AI. However, concerns about reliability persist, with 63% of employees citing accuracy as crucial. Alarmingly, nearly two-thirds believe AI agents are unreliable, with over half reporting that they ignore feedback. Only 18% of organizations track errors, and less than 10% have ethical guidelines for AI use. This accountability gap leaves many employees uncertain about responsibility when mistakes occur. Training is another critical issue; while 82% of workers seek guidance on effectively using AI, only 32% receive it. Mark Hoffman from Asana emphasizes the need to treat AI agents as teammates, advocating for clear responsibilities, robust feedback loops, and training to prevent “AI debt” stemming from unreliable systems.
