Sora for Android saw nearly half a million installs on its first day

Recent data from Sensor Tower reveals that ChatGPT’s growth is plateauing, with the AI chatbot capturing 50% of global mobile downloads and maintaining 55% of monthly active users. In contrast, Google’s Gemini is rapidly gaining traction, surpassing ChatGPT in download growth, user engagement, and time spent in-app, indicating a significant competitive shift. OpenAI, concerned by this trend, has issued a “code red” memo from CEO Sam Altman, urging enhancements in personalization and reliability.

As of November 2025, ChatGPT’s monthly active users increased by 180% year-over-year to approximately 810 million, but only rose by 6% recently—suggesting nearing market saturation. Meanwhile, Gemini saw a 30% rise in the same period, aided by its popular image generation model, Nano Banana. Notably, Gemini users now engage more through the Android OS, bolstering its market position. Other competitors like Perplexity and Claude are also driving ChatGPT’s market share decline, highlighting the competitive landscape’s escalation.
