A recent study by OpenAI analyzed over 1.1 million ChatGPT messages, revealing a shift in usage from work-related tasks to everyday activities. Between May 2023 and April 2024, the proportion of work-related messages dropped dramatically from 57% to 28%. Users now primarily rely on ChatGPT for guidance, information, and writing assistance. Common queries include personal challenges, health inquiries, and creative writing help, with only 5% of interactions related to coding. Significantly, 1 in 4 messages are now information-seeking, indicating a trend towards using ChatGPT as a personalized search engine. Additionally, gender usage is becoming more balanced, with feminine-coded names slightly surpassing male ones, reflecting a broader demographic. This study underscores ChatGPT’s evolution into a daily companion, offering users valuable support beyond traditional work hours, making it an indispensable tool for various life needs.
