The increasing reliance on blood tests for prostate cancer detection is overburdening doctors in Norway. To alleviate this, NTNU has developed an AI diagnostic tool, PROVIZ, which assists in interpreting MRI images of the prostate. This tool allows radiologists to efficiently identify patients requiring biopsies, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and speed. Despite the promise of AI, patient trust remains crucial, especially in high-stakes scenarios like cancer diagnosis. A study involving men diagnosed with prostate cancer revealed that trust in healthcare professionals significantly influences acceptance of AI. Patients show confidence in AI for lower-risk conditions but prefer human validation for cancer assessments. By fostering foundational trust in healthcare and interpersonal trust in doctors, the integration of AI in clinical practice can be successful. As NTNU seeks to patent PROVIZ, the emphasis remains on maintaining the doctor-patient relationship, ensuring that AI aids but does not replace human expertise in prostate cancer diagnostics.
