NHS Shared Business Services has introduced a £150M framework for digital dictation, speech recognition, and outsourced transcription, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare workflows. This ‘Digital Dictation, Speech Recognition and Outsourced Transcription 2‘ framework enhances operational efficiency by integrating proven technologies and creating a pathway for Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) and AI-driven scribing tools. According to Philips Wood, NHS SBS Principal Category Manager, it is a strategic enabler that promotes flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency in healthcare. AI scribing technology can significantly reduce clinician burnout by autonomously generating structured notes during patient-clinician conversations. Trials at Great Ormond Street Hospital revealed a 13% increase in patient throughput and a 35% decrease in notetaking stress. The framework not only meets immediate needs with established solutions but also allows for future integration of innovative technologies, potentially unlocking £658M annually in additional capacity and optimizing clinical and administrative processes across NHS organizations.
