At the International Poultry Council (IPC) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, experts discussed AI’s role in enhancing outbreak surveillance and operational management. Andrea Thomas from BlueDot highlighted their use of large language models (LLMs) to scan millions of articles monthly for early disease risk detection, including avian influenza impacts. Justin Sherrard from Völur described how AI optimizes decision-making in meat processing, achieving yield improvements of 1–1.5% and labor cuts of 12%. Both emphasized that data quality is critical for effective AI implementation. They reiterated that while AI augments human expertise, trust and transparency remain essential. The discussion extended to AI’s implications in agricultural finance, underscoring its rapid evolution and the need for poultry producers to leverage these advancements for enhanced operational and strategic outcomes in a competitive landscape.
