Runway, a $3 billion AI start-up previously known for its impact in Hollywood, is now targeting the gaming industry with its new tool, Game Worlds. Set to launch next week, this innovative platform allows users to create video games using text-based prompts. While generative AI is already utilized by game developers, Game Worlds marks the first dedicated model for game creation through text input. Initially, users can craft simple gameplay mechanics supported by user-supplied images, with more complex features anticipated by year-end. This evolution raises concerns about AI’s long-term implications on creativity within the industry, especially as it has already been integrated into major Hollywood projects, such as “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Runway’s CEO, Cristobal Valenzuela, notes that AI can expedite game development significantly but stresses the importance of maintaining creative integrity. As Runway engages with major studios for future collaborations, the balance between efficiency and creativity remains critical.
