OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently responded to Elon Musk’s criticisms during an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, downplaying Musk’s remarks about OpenAI and its new GPT-5 model. After OpenAI launched GPT-5, which boasts enhanced accuracy, speed, reasoning, and math capabilities, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced its full integration across Microsoft products. Musk claimed this would lead OpenAI to “eat Microsoft alive.” Altman, however, stated he doesn’t focus much on Musk, emphasizing that the criticisms from the xAI founder seem contradictory given their past collaboration. Altman highlighted GPT-5 as a significant advancement in AI, noting it offers developers options for various performance levels—gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano. He asserts that GPT-5 represents a substantial leap towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and is the first model that approaches expert-level responses. OpenAI has made GPT-5 available in its free tier, marking a milestone for users and developers alike.
