Altman emphasized that safety is paramount, stating OpenAI prioritizes prohibitions on domestic surveillance and accountability in the use of force, including autonomous weapons. The agreement follows Trump’s directive to designate Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, citing national security concerns. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth mandated that no partner engaged with the U.S. military may conduct business with Anthropic during a six-month phase-out period. Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei, had previously resisted allowing its AI for all lawful purposes, raising concerns about mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. Altman reiterated OpenAI’s commitment to safety and sought similar agreements among all AI companies to ensure responsible technology deployment.
