In 2024, he will focus on “0→1 initiatives,” aimed at building new teams and capabilities within OpenAI as the organization expands internationally. He emphasized the importance of responsible AI adoption in his role. Having previously worked at Stripe and Google, Gianella has played a crucial part in regulatory and educational initiatives at OpenAI. Alongside this transition, he plans to pursue a joint Executive MBA program at ETH Zurich and the University of St. Gallen in 2026-2027, enhancing his leadership skills for the future. Gianella will also continue his angel investing in startups that tackle real-world AI applications across various sectors. Additionally, OpenAI is set to recruit a new EMEA Global Affairs Lead to succeed him, marking a significant opportunity in tech-policy intersections.
