The Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) recently revised its eligibility rules for the Nebula Awards concerning works created using generative large language models (LLMs). Following initial backlash from the SFF community, SFWA clarified that any work written wholly or partially by LLM tools will be disqualified. Furthermore, works that incorporate LLMs during their writing process must disclose this upon nomination acceptance. Acknowledging the confusion caused by the original press release dated December 19, 2025, SFWA issued an apology on December 22, admitting that their wording was misleading and expressed a commitment to improving their guidelines. They invited community feedback about LLM influences in writing and included a survey to gather insights. For the complete Nebula Awards rules and updates, visit the SFWA website. Additionally, support for Locus Magazine during its Year-End Giving Campaign helps maintain valuable resources for readers and writers alike.
