On August 1, 2025, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) expressed concerns over misinformation disseminated by AI platforms regarding Gurbani and Sikh history. The SGPC reached out to multiple AI companies, including ChatGPT, Google, and Meta, demanding immediate action against content that distorts sacred teachings and imagery of Sikh Gurus. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami highlighted that these alterations harm the sentiments of the Sikh community and discredit the Guru Granth Sahib, which is regarded as the supreme authority in Sikhism. He urged the community to seek knowledge only from authentic historical sources rather than relying on potentially misleading AI applications. Additionally, Dhami called on home minister Amit Shah to acknowledge this issue and establish a policy to prevent the spread of such harmful practices. The SGPC aims to safeguard the integrity of Sikh beliefs and traditions in the digital age, emphasizing respect for their religious texts.
