Currently supporting single-item orders from U.S. Etsy (NASDAQ: ETSY) sellers, the feature plans to expand to over one million Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP) merchants, including popular brands like Skims and Glossier. This new functionality has already boosted Etsy’s stock by nearly 14% and Shopify’s by over 5%. Available for U.S.-based ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Free users, OpenAI aims to expand this feature globally in the future. Instant Checkout offers a potential new revenue stream for OpenAI through transaction fees from Etsy and Shopify, while ensuring the checkout process remains free for users with unchanged product prices. Michelle Fradin, OpenAI’s product lead for commerce, emphasized that the feature aligns with the company’s goal of assisting users with real-world tasks.
