Notably, ChatGPT was only available in the U.S. initially, while Sora launched in both the U.S. and Canada. Sora’s impressive launch, despite being invite-only, highlights significant consumer interest, reaching 56,000 installs on its first day and ranking No. 3 overall before climbing to No. 1 by October 3. This performance outpaces competing AI apps, including Anthropic’s Claude and Microsoft’s Copilot. Furthermore, Sora employs advanced deepfake technology, generating various content that has sparked discussions on ethical use, especially regarding deceased personas. As of October 1, daily downloads peaked at 107,800, maintaining strong numbers despite not yet being fully available to the public.
