Police in eastern Spain are investigating a 17-year-old boy for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create and distribute fake nude images of female classmates, intending to sell them online. The investigation by Guardia Civil began after a female student reported a social media account in her name featuring AI-generated nude content. The account, along with others, displayed manipulated images of minors, leading to further complaints from 15 additional victims. Law enforcement traced the suspect’s digital footprint through social media and hosting companies, ultimately linking him to the crime. This case emphasizes the increasing concern over the misuse of AI technology among minors. Recently, similar incidents in Extremadura resulted in probation for 15 other youths, reinforcing the need for enhanced education on gender equality and responsible tech use. Spain’s government is also pursuing legislation to criminalize non-consensual AI-generated imagery, highlighting the importance of protecting youth online.
