Netskope’s recent research reveals a 50% surge in generative AI (genAI) platform usage among enterprise employees, raising data security concerns associated with shadow AI applications. The latest Netskope Threat Labs Cloud and Threat Report highlights that over half of AI applications fall under shadow AI, lacking IT approval and posing risks of uncontrolled data access. Fastest-growing shadow AI segments include platforms like Microsoft Azure OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock. On-premises AI solutions are also on the rise, with 34% of organizations using large language model interfaces. Security challenges escalate as autonomous AI agents, which require access to sensitive data, proliferate; 66% of organizations utilize API access to third-party AI services. Netskope advises security leaders to evaluate genAI application use, enhance application controls, and monitor AI activity to mitigate risks effectively. Collaboration with employees experimenting with AI agents is essential to develop responsive security policies.
