A recent survey, “Are You There, AI?” conducted by Youth Ki Awaaz and Youth Leaders for Active Citizenship, indicates that 88% of school students, particularly those aged 13-18, use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for emotional support during times of stress and anxiety. Released on August 20, the survey reveals that 57% of young Indians turn to AI when feeling lonely or needing advice, with ChatGPT being the most popular choice. The study, which gathered insights from 506 participants in June 2025, highlights that emotional reliance on AI is notably higher among young women, with 52% sharing personal thoughts compared to 26% of young men. Interestingly, 43% of youth from small towns engage emotionally with AI, more than those in metropolitan areas. Although many express concerns about social isolation and privacy, the findings suggest that AI serves as a valuable confidant, addressing emotional gaps without replacing essential human support.
