Manik Surtani, Block’s Head of Open Source, warns that if artificial intelligence (AI) becomes dominated like social media, we face significant risks. He emphasizes the dangers of AI falling under the control of a few companies, leading to potential monopolies and abuse. In response, Surtani has been facilitating an unprecedented collaboration between leading AI labs, OpenAI and Anthropic, to create the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). This initiative, established under the Linux Foundation, aims to promote responsible AI development. Initially launched with 60 companies, the foundation has rapidly expanded to 130 members, including major players like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cloudflare, and Bloomberg. Notably, Chinese tech giant Alibaba has also joined the movement. This collaboration seeks to ensure a more equitable and sustainable AI landscape, steering the technology away from monopolistic control and towards a beneficial future for all.
