On Friday, OpenAI announced the hiring of Crossing Minds, a San Francisco-based startup renowned for its AI-driven ecommerce recommendations. Founded in 2017 by AI experts Alexandre Robicquet, Emile Contal, and Google X’s Sebastian Thrun, Crossing Minds aims to enhance AI capabilities within OpenAI. The cofounders expressed enthusiasm about aligning their mission with OpenAI’s goal to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits humanity. This acquisition follows OpenAI’s recent $6.4 billion purchase of Jony Ive’s AI devices startup, io, marking its largest acquisition to date. Additionally, OpenAI has secured Windsurf for around $3 billion and acquired Rockset, a database analytics startup, to enhance its enterprise offerings in 2024. These strategic acquisitions highlight OpenAI’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence technologies.
