The OpenAI Academy × NxtWave Regional Buildathon at AMET University in Chennai engaged over 400 students from Tamil Nadu, including those from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The two-day event focused on designing AI-driven solutions for various sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and urban safety, using GPT-4 and multimodal AI tools. Participants received guidance from over 50 experts, leading to innovative prototypes such as AI teachers, smart dustbins, women’s safety rings, and rural development kits. Srutanjay Narayanan, IAS, Joint CEO of the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, praised the initiative for inspiring young innovators to tackle pressing challenges. NxtWave CEO Rahul Attuluri emphasized the importance of democratizing AI education. Winning projects will progress to the national finals, before the upcoming India-AI Impact Summit 2026. This event highlights the commitment to fostering innovation and practical applications of AI in diverse fields.
