A recent Gallup survey reveals that nearly two-thirds of U.S. public school teachers embraced artificial intelligence (AI) during the past school year, with weekly users saving an average of six hours of work. However, 28% still oppose AI in the classroom. The survey, which included responses from 2,232 educators, highlighted AI’s potential to augment teaching rather than replace it. Key tools like Google Classroom and adaptive systems were commonly used for preparing materials, grading, and providing insights into student performance. While many teachers noted AI’s benefits in improving accessibility and operational efficiency, concerns lingered about its impact on student critical thinking and independence. Notably, 57% feared AI might diminish students’ problem-solving aptitude. The U.S. Department of Education has urged for standards governing AI use in education. Despite its advantages, many teachers lack guidance and training in implementing AI tools effectively in their classrooms.
